The 2016 Pinot Noir Kiser en Haut is pale to medium ruby-purple and has an exuberant nose of warm red and black cherries, raspberries and cranberries with touches of dusty soil, lavender and mossy bark. The medium-bodied palate reveals lovely floral sparks accenting the red fruits with a fine-grained frame and oodles of freshness, finishing on a mineral note. 250 cases produced.

The 2016 Pinot Noir Kiser En Haut from Anderson Valley saw 20% new French oak. It has a complex, nuanced, Côte de Beaune-like perfume of red fruits, sassafras, flowers, and exotic spices. Incredibly elegant, silky, and polished on the palate, with juicy acidity, it shines for its complexity, nuance, and ethereal texture. It’s one of the gems in the lineup. I had a great tasting with winemaker Wells Gunthrie and these latest releases show elegant, vibrant profiles. These aren’t for those craving powerful, rich wines, and they shine for their purity of fruit, balanced, and singular personalities.
The 2016 Pinot Noir Kiser En Haut is absolutely gorgeous. In 2016, the Kiser En Haut has a bit more depth and textural richness than it has had at times in the past, most likely the result of a growing season that was quite favorable. The 50% whole clusters are very well-integrated. I am shocked how well the 2016 shows given it was racked just a few days prior to this tasting.
