The estate's 2004 Caiarossa offers up plenty of over-ripe dark fruit in a fat, opulent style. The wine shows good length and but limited overall complexity. The 2004 Caiarossa is better than the 2005, but this bottling still needs work. The 2004 Caiarossa is predominantly Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese, with smaller percentages of Petit Verdot, Alicante, Syrah and Mourvedre.

Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016. These are the first wines I have tasted from Caiarossa, a young property in Maremma owned by Eric Albada Jelgersma, who also owns Chateau Giscours and Chateau du Tertre in Bordeaux.
