From the pre vertical shoot positioning era, when all they did was prune and pick the vines, which lasted until the early 1980s. Sterling Vineyards pioneered VSP in the valley in 1984 because they had seen it in Bordeaux. Bright, shaded ruby. This might have been too tart when young but is lovely now. Super-fresh with cassis and balsam notes. Sweet and beautifully balanced. Slightly dusty finish but great for the age of this wine. Amazingly youthful in fact. (JR)
