Score 93/100 · Drink 2001-2016, Robert Parker, Oct 2001
The 1998 Ceppate (a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Chianti Classico region, and equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the coastal Maremma region) is terrific, no doubt because the Tuscan coastline enjoyed a far better vintage in 1998 than the inland viticultural regions. The color is a healthy dark ruby/purple, and the bouquet exhibits super fruit (primarily creme de cassis and new oak). Aged 12 months in 100% new oak, of which 70% was French, this youthful wine (1,800 six-packs produced) is full-bodied, ripe, textured, rich, and promising. It should drink well for 12-15 years.
