The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Vogelzang Vineyard offers plenty of depth and power, along with a more floral/savory element that balances some of the wine's more overt leanings. Graphite, smoke, mint, olives and leather add nuance, while firm tannins give energy, especially through the finish. A Cabernet Sauvignon of real character, the Vogelzang will drink well for a number of years. The 2012 spent 22 months in French oak, 80% new, and all of it nicely integrated. This is a textbook example of Cabernet Sauvignon from Happy Canyon.

Still in barrel, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Vogelzang Vineyard is medium-bodied and lively, with juicy notes of mint, blackcurrants, lead pencil and sappy underbrush. It's not a heavyweight, yet is nicely made and balanced. It should drink well early in its life. The elevage here is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 22 months in 80% new French oak.
(80% new French oak): Saturated ruby. Blackberry, cassis, peppery spices and a touch of pipe tobacco on the perfumed nose. Nicely concentrated and seamless, displaying a smoky quality to its dark berry, mocha and vanilla flavors. Finishes with smooth, harmonious tannins and excellent fruit-driven persistence. Showing plenty of complexity for such a young wine but I'd hold onto it for another four or five years, at a minimum.
