Peppery spices, black cherries and dark berries. A hint of mussel shells and graphite. Well-structured with almost full body from this lighter vintage. Crunchy and lively, this has nicely chewy, fine-grained tannins. Long finish.

The second wine of this great estate, the 2024 Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré is based largely on Cabernet Sauvignon, with 18% each of Merlot and Cabernet Franc and 15% Petit Verdot. It's aging in second-fill barrels. Ripe red and black fruits, graphite, assorted flowers, and spicy nuances all emerge on the nose. Medium-bodied, it has a round, layered, and nicely balanced mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and outstanding length.
Bright raspberry and blackberry fruits, firm and finely-boned if a touch austere, no new oak for ageing. Harvest 24 September to 10 October, 26hl/h yield, half of the fabulous 2023 vintage. 3.67 pH.
The 2024 Pavillon de Léoville-Poyferré is plump, gorgeous and super-expressive right out of the gate. A burst of dark red cherry, red plum, rose petal, spice, cedar and new leather races across the palate. This deep, fleshy Saint-Julien has a ton to offer. There's good textural depth here, within the context of the year, but there is also a vegetal quality that is impossible to miss. Production is low, hence the relatively high percentage of Petit Verdot in the blend.

Ch. Léoville-Poyferré is a Second Growth Saint-Julien property that was once part of the same estate as Ch. Léoville Barton and Ch. Léoville Las Cases. It has the most complex and varied soils of the three and produces the most voluptuous, seductive style of wine.
