Red cherries, smoked tobacco, and loamy earth all emerge from the 2024 Chateau Valandraud 3 By Valandraud. Medium-bodied and supple, it shows plenty of texture, good balance, and sweet tannins. this charming Saint-Émilion will shine right out of the gate.

The oak is a little more evident than in the past few years because of the quality of the blackcurrant fruit, but this has good kick and lift. A little austere, but has personality. Harvest 23 September to 3 October. 60% new oak. This is sourced from some of the historical plots of Valandraud, near to the Virginie de Valandraud plots. More gourmet than many you will find this year, Jean-Luc Thunevin owner.

The 2024 3 de Valandraud was matured in 60% new oak. It has a pleasant bouquet with blackberry, cedar and light mocha scents. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins on the entry, quite linear in style, with a short finish driven by the wood regime. I would have dialed down the new oak in this vintage.

Cherries, plums, espresso, spearmint and cocoa nuances open the wine. Medium-bodied, bright, fruity, and fresh, this is going to be easy to enjoy on release for all of its fruits, and energy in the finish. The wine blends 90% Merlot with 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
