Sporting a deep ruby/plum hue as well as classy notes of red, blue, and black fruits intermixed with obvious minerality and graphite, the 2024 Château Sansonnet is medium-bodied, with a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. It's clearly outstanding and, I suspect, will be a terrific value.

Gentle grilled cedar and campfire, soft purple colour, chalky even flinty tannins that are reflective of its clay limestone soils. This is a wine that steals up on you, charmingly so, as you sit and allow the fruit to unroll. They have done a good job with the vintage, teasing out concentration, and the acidity is kept measured and in check. Not a wine to age for decades, but there is plenty to enjoy along the way. 3.45 pH, 66 IPT, 75 % new oak. Harvest 25 September to 9 October, 34 hl/ha yields. Heavy bottle, tasted twice. Really is a wine to watch, sappy with energy and limestone signature but also rich fruits.

The 2024 Sansonnet is very fine. Naturally, the wine is not quite as deep as in most years, but Sansonnet has complexity and structure to burn. Black-toned fruit, new leather, licorice, incense and chocolate all fill out in a delicious and highly promising Saint-Émilion. There's plenty of texture in the mid palate, naturally in the style of the year. Tasted three times.

The 2024 Sansonnet comes across as a bit oaky on the nose compared to its peers and previous vintages, though a second bottle towards the end of my tastings exhibited more integration and composure. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, bold in structure, yet I am seeking more composure and mineralité to come through, which might develop once in bottle. A bit short, though.
