Tasting notes
Sea-breeze saline and alkaline as well as smoky notes greet the nose, anticipating the mineral dominance on a glossy palate. White peach, crab apple and lime lend animating tang and bright juiciness. The vibrant, penetrating finish is transparent to a fascinating array of mineral nuances, whose invigorating impingements are enhanced by nips of peppercorn and mustard seed.

Alzinger's 2016 Ried Steinertal Riesling Smaragd is concentrated but clear, fresh and mineral on the nose where white fruit and flinty flavors are displayed. Round and elegant on the palate, this is a charming and well-balanced Riesling with a juicy, mouth-filling texture and refined mineral structure. The 2016 has very good length and purity, doesn't lack tension, grip or salinity and is really stimulating, even though it is still one or two years too young. Tasted in July 2017, one week after the bottling.
