Tasting notes
Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard needs a little coaxing to reveal provocative notes of crème de cassis, blueberry pie and menthol plus hints of bay leaves, lavender and charcuterie with a waft of iron ore. The full-bodied, finely grained palate is beautifully poised with compelling freshness and a long, mineral-laced finish. 266 cases were made.

Lastly, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard comes from a great vineyard that's putting out some incredible wines today. Compared to the Napa Valley Red wine, it's more restrained and backward yet has even more density and concentration. Notes of blueberries, scorched earth, violets, lead pencil, and iodine give way to a deep, full-bodied wine with flawless balance, building tannins, a stacked mid-palate, and a great, great finish. It's mostly potential at this young stage, but it’s a thrilling bottle of wine. Hide bottles for 4-5 years and it should evolve for 30 years or more.
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard is a big, full-bodied wine that takes all the natural richness of this Oakville site and dials it up to eleven. Blueberry jam, chocolate, licorice, spice and plum make a strong opening statement. Some of the intensity tapers off on the mid-palate and finish. Otherwise, this is nicely done.
