Tasting notes
The very deep purple-black colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Jack's Masterpiece reveals the most stunning perfume of violets, chocolate box, star anise, rose hip tea and lavender over a core of kirsch, blackberry pie, warm plums and cassis plus a waft of allspice. Full-bodied and delivering intense fresh black and red fruits in the mouth, the palate maintains a lot of grace and finesse in spite of the the obvious power, with beautifully plush tannins and a very long, perfumed finish. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Jack’s Masterpiece, which is a blend from their finest vineyards, displays super-sweet tannins, an opaque purple color and beautiful crème de cassis, blueberry and blackberry fruit. Its flawless integration of acidity, tannin, wood and alcohol and its opulent, full-bodied mouthfeel make for a true elixir and fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon to drink now or cellar for 25-30 more years. I would still try to defer gratification for 2-3 years prior to drinking this big boy. It has three decades-plus of longevity.
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Jack's Masterpiece is dark, powerful and explosive, with real sense of tannic structure underpinning the fruit. Blackberry jam, cassis, espresso, chocolate and leather give the 2013 much of its brooding, intense personality. Like all the Hall Cabernets, the Jack's is distinguished by its deep, plush texture. The 2013 is striking, but it also needs time to shed some of its formidable tannic heft.
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Jack's Masterpiece is a blend from several hillside appellations. Savory and mineral notes abound, while powerful, searing tannins keep the black cherry fruit in the background. The Jack's Masterpiece is another wine that needs time in bottle to come together. Hints of leather and cedar add nuance, but this structured, powerful Cabernet still needs to come together.
