Full bottle 1,441 g. Agglomerated cork. Average vine age of 80 years. Tasted blind. Medium ruby in colour with a stroke of purple. Plummy and brambly with a whiff of cacao and dried thyme. Viscous mouthfeel and a touch of sweetness to the plummy fruit that leaves me wondering if there may be just a gram or two of RS. Elevated sandy tannins and broad mouth-watering acidity. A lovely dusty, earthy, ripe and warm finish. (SCJ)

Full bottle 1,360 g. Zinfandel, Mataro, Grenache, Alicante Bouschet, Carignan, Petite Sirah. Raised in a wide variety of French and Austrian barrels, puncheons and foudres (about 10% new) and only racked at bottling. Transparent garnet. Very sweet start with grainy texture and lots of grunt. This could only be California! Although, come to think of it, it's not unlike some of the Garnachas around today. To be drunk with a steak or sausages of anything barbecued! (JR)

The 2019 Zinfandel Old Vine offers a more savory, darker fruited, spicy style and has loads of character. Blackberries, plums, cedary incense, flowers, and loamy soil all define the nose, and it has medium-bodied density and depth, ripe tannins, and outstanding length.

The 2019 Zinfandel Old Vine is gorgeous. Bright acids and floral overtones perk up the red berry fruit in a Zinfandel that delivers the goods, and plenty more. Bright and beautifully layered, the 2019 hits all the right notes. Then again, it is a blend of stellar sites, including Bedrock, Nervo, Sodini, Evangelho, Katushas’, Teldeschi, Pagani Ranch and Old Hill. Because of the COVID pandemic and uncertain short-term economic outlook, the 2019 includes quite a bit of wine that in more normal times would he bottled in the vineyard designates. Stated simply: buy as much as you can.
