Score 93/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, Oct 2019

A blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Syrah, the 2016 Companion shows the fresh, pure, balanced style of the vintage beautifully. Notes of cassis, chocolate, damp earth, and leafy herbs give way to a medium to full-bodied, fresh, focused effort that has the Cabernet Sauvignon front and center. It’s going to be better with another year or two of bottle age and keep for a decade. A portion of the Cabernet Sauvignon in this cuvée comes from the Happy Canyon region of Santa Barbara County, hence its release under the Central Coast appellation.
