Tasting notes
The 2021 Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling GG from the Rings brothers opens clear and quite reductive on the nose but shows deep, ripe, elegant fruit in the background. Round and elegant in the mouth, this is a firm, grippy, still quite phenolic Riesling with a firm, fresh, pleasantly bitter as well as saline finish. It still needs time and especially aeration. 13% stated alcohol. Tasted in Wiesbaden, August 2022.

Certified organic. AP number 27 22. Very obvious aromas of spontaneous fermentation: fumy, herbal, not quite struck match but plenty of sulphides (not sulphites). Rich, creamy texture with a core of crisp lemon and grapefruit. A bold, dramatic, intense wine with a long, mouth-watering finish. (JH)
Chalky and citrus aromatics on an austere yet stylised palate. Lime zest and grapefruit, with tremendous concentration, power and grip. Intense stony momentum shifted into hyperdrive and let loose on the Autobahn . No brakes required. (PS)
