Tasting notes
Borgo Scopeto does a great job with this entry-level wine. The 2019 Chianti Classico is 90% Sangiovese, 5% Merlot and 5% Colorino. The wine shows a lot of spice and ripe fruit, putting it on the darker side of the spectrum. There is plum, blackberry and sweet earth with dusty mineral dryness. This is an ample production of 170,000 bottles (offered at good value).

Vagliagli. 90% Sangiovese, 5% Merlot, 5% Colorino. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Not much of a nose right now, only showing malty notes. Sweet but slightly bitter fruit, pulled up by lively acidity until the drying tannins kick in. (WS)
A firm and linear Chianti Classico with plenty of cherry and redcurrant character, medium body and a fresh finish. The tannins blend in nicely. Delivers bitter orange to the fruit at the end. Drink or hold.
