Score 86/100 · Drink 2016-2022, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Mar 2017

The 2009 Blaignan has a simple, rather floral, almost Margaux-like below that needs just a little more complexity. The palate is well balanced with chewy black and red fruit, tobacco, cedar and almost charcoal like notes towards the finish. At seven years of age, it still has plenty of vinous pleasure to give, although it is marked by a bit of austerity, uncommon in this particular vintage.

Dark garnet with opaque core. Smells much riper than the Beauregard Ducasse 2012 Graves just tasted, with more spice. Smooth chocolatey texture, so rounded that you could happily drink it on its own. Most of the pleasure is up front but it does persist reasonably well. Just enough freshness but typical of the vintage. I prefer the 2012 Graves. (JH)

60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. Fine cedary nose, slimmer than some but nicely balanced. Taut at first and then the tannins thicken on the end. Not very expressive yet. (JH)
