Tasting notes
Dark red. Pungent cherry, dark berries, incense and potpourri on the highly complex nose. Stains the palate with sappy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that possess a suave blend of power and finesse. A core of juicy acidity contributes structure and drives an impressively long, youthfully tannic finish that strongly echoes the cherry and floral notes.

Pale to medium ruby-purple in the glass, the 2017 Pinot Noir Primera has a lovely nose of cinnamon stick and potpourri with perfumed earth, ripe black cherries and berries, orange peel and amaro—very expressive! Light to medium-bodied with great layers of fruits and spices in the mouth, it's well balanced and pure with wonderful juicy acidity and a frame of fine, grainy tannins, finishing long and layered. Lovely! 851 cases produced.
From the cooler Edna Valley, the 2017 Pinot Noir Primera is a step back from the 2016 yet is still a beautiful, outstanding Pinot Noir. Burgundian notes of sweet cherries, strawberries, spring flowers, and forest floor all give way to a medium-bodied effort that has beautiful fruit, ripe, silky tannins and no hard edges. I like it today, I suspect it will evolve nicely, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it still showing well in a decade.
