Tasting notes
Composed of 49% Grenache, 26% Syrah and 25% Mourvèdre, the 2020 Paulie reveals hints of volatility and reduction, accompanied by a firm dark-fruited nose and resinous purple flowers. Needing more time in the bottle, the medium to full-bodied wine currently has a slight prickle on the palate, but it should age nicely. The red blend concludes with dark fruit flavors and bitter dark chocolate across the finish. Vinification included 50% whole-cluster grapes. 2,400 bottles were made.

The 2020 Paulie seduces with its woodland-inspired blend of crushed wild berries, flowery underbrush, wet rocks and freshly split pine. This opens with a noticeable inner sweetness balanced by zesty acidity, as a wave of ripe blueberry and cherry wash across the palate. It finishes with medium length yet clean, with a hint of confectionary spice. From its bouquet, I was expecting a more savory character within, which takes away from the natural flow of the experience. Paulie us a blend of 49% Grenache, 26% Syrah, and 25% Mourvèdre.
