The 2013 Carignan, Evangelho Vineyard is an intense, dark wine. Although there is plenty of fruit and overall depth, I find little varietal character. Drink this uncharacteristically inky, jammy Carignan over the next few years.

An outstanding wine from the sandy soils and head-pruned vines of Contra Costa County, the 2013 Carignan Evanghelo Vineyard (97% Carignan and 3% Petite Sirah) is delicious. For the most part, Carignan doesn't seem to age in a graceful fashion, so drink this big, juicy, blue and red fruited wine with loads of earth, spice, pepper and meatiness over the next 3-4 years.
