Score 93/100 · Drink 2013-2028, Robert Parker, May 2011

Sharing a dense purple color, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Stout Vineyard exhibits notes of crushed rocks, blueberries, black raspberries and cassis. This young, promising 2001 is nearly as youthful as the Monitor Ledge cuvee, but slightly more concentrated. It needs 2-3 years of cellaring and should drink well for 20-25 years. With nine separate offerings, all performing exceptionally well, Duckhorn Vineyards must be thrilled with the evolution of their 2001s. This is a terrific performance for these Duckhorn wines with most of them showing better than they did upon release – always a great sign. Tel. (866) 367-9945; Fax (707) 945-1009

Medium ruby. Dark berries, menthol and strong oak notes of tar, bourbon and clove. Deep, sweet and oaky, with currant and tobacco flavors. Finishes with big, chewy, dusty tannins.
