Glass-staining ruby. An intensely perfumed bouquet displays dark berry liqueur, incense, potpourri and cola scents, and a smoky mineral nuance emerges with aeration. Juicy, broad and alluringly sweet, offering deeply concentrated blackberry, cherry cola, licorice and floral pastille flavors that show fine definition and spicy back-end lift. Impressively deep but vibrant, with sneaky tannins adding shape and grip to the wonderfully long, floral-driven finish.

Another stunning edition of this old-vine shiraz. This has a super rich and complex nose with ripe plums and blackberries, earth, chocolate and baking spices, too. The palate has a very plush, velvety core of tannin that is soft but dense. Thereâs a spark of redder fruit in the midst of the blueberry, plum and spiced-blackberry flavors. Polished, silky finish that holds both fresh and long. Drink or hold. Best from 2025.
100% Syrah from Hoffman Dallwitz vineyard's DW-OLD block, planted 1888 and 1912, with adjacent ER-27 block planted in 1927, at 31–43 hl/ha. 19 Burgundian pièces were blended after 77 weeks' maturation. No filtration, fining or sparging. 4,961 bottles made. Deep black, again with a vivid purple rim. White-pepper leafiness, blueberry and raspberry and stem-herb tones. Rich palate of white pepper-spiced, leafy blackberry, with tar, smoke and chocolate. Very young and powerful. Firm, grainy tannins and a long finish. (TJ)
