Far superior is the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Quarry Vineyard from Rutherford. Classic kirsch, black currant, gravel, and scorched ember notes are presented in a tannic, full-bodied, impressive style. As I have written in the past, Beringer offers between 200-250 cases of each of their single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons that go into their Private Reserve program. Interestingly, as good as the single vineyard cuvees tend to be, and they’re all very different, the Private Reserve blend is as good or better than the finest single vineyard, demonstrating that the blending process is essential and important. Good full red. Captivating aromas of redcurrant, tobacco, flowers and minerals, with a chocolate mint quality emerging with air. Juicy, nicely delineated flavors of red fruits, minerals and flowers. Not especially dense or fat but not tough either. In fact, this firmly tannic cabernet is gentle and attractive.
