Score 91/100 · Drink 2018-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jun 2018

The 2016 Pinot Noir Ferrari Family Vineyard is pretty, but also a touch compact at this stage. My impression is that the 2016 still needs to fully assimilate the 100% whole clusters. The tannins are a bit aggressive, while the fruit is not particularly expressive. Ferrari is the vineyard previously known as Woodruff. I have said this before, but I will say it again. The practice of new owners renaming vineyards is a sure-fire way to destroy the brand equity that has been built at this site over the years. These decisions (and I am not singling out Ferrari) are purely driven by ego and also make it impossible to build long term, multi-generational value in land.
