Score 86/100 · Drink 2017-2022, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Mar 2017

The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Colombaio is a tight and slightly sour expression of Sangiovese. The wine offers little margin or aromatic flexibility. Instead, it offers a very tight and linear delivery of sour cherry, cassis and candied fruit. The effect is slightly disjointed overall. Earthy tones of forest floor or cured meat also appear.

Tasted blind. Deep maturing ruby with bright orange tinges. Sweet, lifted vanilla and ripe fruit nose. Almost a little artificial. Plenty of supple cherry fruit on the palate. Tannic finish. The palate seems more complex than the nose, so this needs more time. (WS)
