Score 88/100 · Drink 2015-2022, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Sep 2015
An entry-level red, the 2012 Etna Rosso Norma is 99% Nerello Mascalese and 1% Nerello Cappuccio as the producer's technical sheet tells me with absolute precision. Older vineyards on Etna usually see the two varieties interplanted in a somewhat haphazard manner and this may be the case here. Norma offers a unique bouquet that is reminiscent of Pinot Nero. The wine opens to a light garnet color and a lean consistency. Bright berry aromas offers a great sense of freshness and there are tones of violets, licorice and volcanic ash. The wine offers a pinch of tannic sharpness or astringency.
