Score 93/100 · Drink 2017-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2016

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Horseshoe is supple, open-knit and pretty, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking over the next handful of years or so. The red cherry and plum flavors offer notable depth throughout, while sweeter aromatics add lift into the finish. Silky tannins give the 2014 much of its near-term appeal. A dollop of Petit Verdot rounds out the blend.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Horse Shoe is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, but from a different parcel than The Trail or Pony Express. The Horse Shoe wasn’t made in 2013, but the 2014 Horse Shoe displays plenty of licorice, almost scorched volcanic earth, loamy soil and wet rocks. There’s huge minerality running through this dense, concentrated wine, with loads of black fruits, supple tannins, and a full-bodied, multi-layered mouthfeel. It’s another beauty to drink over the next 20 or so years, if you can resist it that long.
