Score 93/100 · Drink 2019-2032, Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, Dec 2019

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Dubrul Vineyard is 100% Cabernet and displays big, bold, juicy black fruit on the nose, with sweet oak and black and red spices and a focus on rich, ripe fruit. Full-bodied on the palate, the wine is dense and chewy, with a ripe core of fruit that is both generous and spicy, leading to bold, focused tannins. High octane and with an intrepid, velvety, long and lingering finish, the wine is going to age like a champion for a decade or more. Only 300 cases made.

A dark, rich and almost essence-like array of ripe dark berries that are framed in cedary notes. The palate has a ripe feel with smooth, mellow tannins, carrying a hit of spicy blueberries. Drink now.

From a great site in Yakima Valley, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon DuBrul Vineyard (100% Cabernet aged 22 months in 75% new French oak) is classic on the nose, with lots of cassis, toasted spice, pencil lead, and dried flower aromas and flavors. Rich, powerful, and full-bodied, with sweet, integrated tannins, it's a brilliant Cabernet as well as the finest I've tasted from this estate to date. Bravo! Winemaker Justin Wylie has pretty much knocked it out of the park with these latest 2016s and there are the finest set of releases I’ve tasted from Va Piano.

Saturated ruby-red. Musky chocolatey oak dominates aromas of blueberry, blackberry, menthol and licorice in the early going. Concentrated, youthfully medicinal flavors of blueberry, blackberry, licorice and herbs convey a fairly tight-grained texture and firm supporting acidity. Finishes with medicinal herbs and broad, dusty tannins. As intensely flavored as it was from barrel during the summer, this wine now seems to be shutting down after the recent bottling. Displayed a bit more violet lift and definition with some aeration but the impression of edgy acidity--and strong oak--remained.
