Score 92/100 · Drink 2014-2034, Robert Parker, May 2011

The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Monitor Ledge Vineyard possesses outstanding fruit concentration, sweet, but noticeable tannins and the most youthful, backward personality. Give it 3-4 more years of bottle age and drink it over the following two decades. With nine separate offerings, all performing exceptionally well, Duckhorn Vineyards must be thrilled with the evolution of their 2001s. This is a terrific performance for these Duckhorn wines with most of them showing better than they did upon release – always a great sign. Tel. (866) 367-9945; Fax (707) 945-1009

Medium ruby. Superripe, highly nuanced nose combines currant, mocha, minerals, leather, mint and flowers. Densely packed, concentrated and quite firm; superripe and large-scaled but not cooked. This really saturates the palate with dark fruits, mocha and minerals. The wine's rich tannins are nicely buffered by its thick but fresh fruit.
