Score 96/100 · Drink 2007-2017, Robert Parker, Dec 2007

An amazing example of this varietal, the 2005 Syrah Buffalo Hill Rockpile Vineyard boasts a dense black/purple color in addition to an extraordinary bouquet of acacia flowers, blackberries, cassis, lavender, bacon, and graphite. It exhibits colossal levels of fruit on the attack, a full-bodied mouthfeel, silky tannin, incredible purity, and a multidimensional finish that builds like a skyscraper on the palate, without getting heavy. An astonishing tour de force in winemaking, it should drink well for a decade. Previously recommended: 2004 Petite Syrah Frediani Vineyard (93), 2004 Syrah Caldwell Vineyard (91), 2004 Syrah Fess Parker Vineyard (92), 2004 Syrah Philary Vineyard (96), 2004 Syrah Rockpile Vineyard Haley’s Reserve (93+).
