Molitor's 2014 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese (Golden Capsule) has a bright citrus color and displays a clear, fresh, ripe and piquant nose with concentrated citrus and white stone fruit aromas intermixed with flinty slate flavors. Clear, piquant and fresh on the palate, with beautifully precise fruit concentration and a mouthwatering salinity, the Wehlener is pretty pure and straight compared to the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr. The wine is lovely clear, elegant and piquant on the finish, and indicates an excellent potential to age very well over the next 15-20 years. (Tasted in March 2017.)

An especially creamy-textured and richly ripe expression of its great site, this deploys poached apple, nectarine, quince jelly, vanilla and almond paste supported by perfectly judged sweetness. The luscious impression of a lime sorbet somehow harmoniously folds into vanilla and almond cream on a superbly sustained, sensationally savory and sustained finish that preserves just enough juiciness to refresh and incorporates a salinity that tugs at the salivary glands.

Markus Molitor is now among the largest privately owned wine estates in the Mosel and also one of the best. With a focus on single-vineyard expressions, the estate produces between 80 and 90 different wines each vintage.
