Tasting notes
Maculan's Crosara is a 100% Merlot that is only made in the best years. The wine spends 12 months in new French oak barrels prior to being bottled without fining and filtration. The first vintage was 2000. Although the wine has compiled a brief track record so far, early results are striking. The estate's 2000 Crosara is a round, sumptuous wine bursting with generous dark fruit. There is wonderful richness and depth to be found in the glass in a style that is a touch more powerful than the 2001. This is another superb Crosara.

The debut vintage, the 2000 Crosara (100% Merlot) was aged 20 months in new French oak. It boasts a dense ruby/purple color along with scents of smoke, espresso, cola, mocha, and black cherry liqueur. Medium-bodied, rich, and layered, with great fruit, soft tannin, and a velvety texture, it may merit 90 points, but I am being conservative in view of the fact that it is the first effort.
