Tasting notes
The 2020 Syrah Jolie Bouche opens with dark red-fruited and spicy notes of red peppercorn, hints of smoked meats and resinous purple flowers. Boasting a full-bodied nature, it holds the palate with a firm grip and balanced structure, eventually yielding to a tannic edge. As the wine sits on the palate, it gradually tightens, showing that it needs additional time to fill its shoes. The Syrah ends with a spicy, food-friendly finish, delivering ripe flavors of black raspberry jus. Nicely done. Made with 100% whole-cluster Syrah grapes, the wine spent 20 months in 30% new French oak puncheons. 3,348 bottles were produced.

The 2020 Syrah Jolie Bouche Estate is dark yet understated in the glass, wafting with feral earth tones and white pepper before giving way to dusty black currants. It washes easily across the palate, soft and soothing, with juicy acidity and citrus-tinged blackberry fruits. Savory herbal tones come through on the finish, along with a coating of fine-grained tannins, as the 2020 tapers off youthfully poised and with a bitter tinge.
