Fig, apple jelly, and sweet floral perfume dominate the nose and palate. This is creamy and soft but refined, elegant and clear in flavors as well. Quince, apple jelly and purest honey in the finish. 1 star.

The chalk-scented 2003 Riesling Spatlese Gleisweiler Holle is silky-textured, suave and creamy. This light to medium-bodied wine is sweet (verging on blowzy) and reveals straightforward pulpy pear flavors. Drink it over the next 6 years. Sadly, the 2003 Riesling Spatlese Gleisweiler Holle (gold capsule) was corked. Importer: Terry Theise Estate Selections, imported by Michael Skurnik Wines, Inc., Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300
