There’s still plenty of oak in the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, but there’s also much more concentration and depth, and I think this wine, although something of an old style Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, will continue to have enough concentration and density to absorb the wood component. It is a full-bodied, chewy wine that is impressive from a muscle and power standpoint, but the oak is at the edge of being excessive. There is a style of ZD that is reminiscent of Silver Oak, with the emphasis on very high levels of oak and extract in the wines. If you don’t like that, there’s no sense reading any further in this tasting note. Tel. (800) 487-7757; fax (707) 968-2640
