Tasting notes
Bright ruby with purple highlights. Vibrant aromas of blackberry, strawberry tart and violet; as primary as a barrel sample. Then juicy, youthful and penetrating, with pure, tangyflavors of strawberry, raspberry, violet and licorice, complicated by a suggestion of candied rose petal. A very distinctive if somewhat musclebound pinot noir, finishing with firm tannic spine and noteworthy precision. This will merit an even higher score if aging brings more pliancy of texture.

The 2002 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Vineyard is an impressive effort. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by a wine of tremendous purity and flavor, excellent delineation, superb fruit on the attack, and medium to full-bodied, black fruit, mineral, earth, underbrush, and nicely integrated wood flavors. Consume it over the next 5-6 years. Tel. (805) 649-1674
