Cask sample. Destemmed. Mid crimson. Inviting fragrance of dark-red fruit. Has a soft elegance – gentle but not wimpy. A savoury/rocky side that complements the fresh fruit. Subtle and long. (JH)

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin En Palud comes from 55-year-old vines and the bunches were completely de-stemmed. It has a delightful bouquet, really quite crystalline with slightly darker fruit than the Gevrey Aux Etelois. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins: touches of red plum and mulberry with a very saline finish that leaves the mouth tingling (just like licking active limestone!). This comes highly recommended.

(picked on September 12): Dark red. Raspberry, minerals and smoked meat on the nose. Plush, silky and very ripe, although a bit lacking in definition and lift. Much smokier than the Etelois, this plush village wine finishes with building tannins.
