Score 89/100 · Drink 2016-2021, Robert Parker, Aug 2016
The 2014 Chardonnay Gap's Crown Vineyard from the Sonoma Coast comes from a high-elevation hillside vineyard that has become quite popular with many top producers. This is a relatively limited cuvée of only 225 cases. It went through full malolactic, was fermented with native yeast, and was aged in 30% new French oak. More tangerine oil, orange blossom and citrus are present in this crisp, medium to full-bodied, not complex, fleshy Chardonnay. It displays slightly more elevated notes of rocky minerality in the flavors, but it is impressive and should drink nicely for 4-5 years.
