Tasting notes
Coming from multiple sites and aged 26 months in new French oak, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve tastes like the essence of Cabernet from Napa Valley. Cassis, blueberries, scorched earth, charcoal, violets and hints of tobacco all emerge from this sensational effort that offers full-bodied richness, no weight, building tannin, and incredible elegance and purity. There's a little Château Margaux-like floral quality here, and this is drop dead gorgeous. An estate I wasn’t familiar with, I was blown away by the wines of Macauley Vineyard. After doing some research, I found out that the wines are made by Kirk Venge, so mystery solved. These are awesome wines and savvy readers need to leap on this bandwagon.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (a barrel sample) has a deep garnet-purple color with a nose of crème de cassis, cigar box, earth and bouquet garni with chargrill and crushed rock nuances. Full and rich in the mouth with firm, grainy tannins and refreshing acid, it's lively and long, a little oaky right now, but this should marry.
