Tasting notes
Based on 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 48% Merlot, the 2017 Napa Valley Red Wine sports a deep purple hue as well as a big, rocking bouquet of blackcurrants, blueberries, melted chocolate, cedary herbs, and incense. Similar in style to winemaker Russell Bevan’s own wines with it pedal to the metal, opulent, sexy style, it’s loaded with fruit, is full-bodied, has ripe, present tannins, and is going to evolve for 15 years or more.

The 2017 Napa Valley Red Wine is floral and lifted, with good energy for a wine of its size. Sweet red cherry, red plum, mint, white pepper and savory herbs all run through this powerhouse wine. Merlot from Sugarloaf, at the very southern end of Napa Valley, gives this wine its distinctive personality. I would cellar the 2017 for a few years, as the tannins need time to soften.
