Opaque, bright-rimmed ruby. Highly expressive, oak-spiced cherry, blackcurrant and candied rose aromas are complemented by suggestions of vanilla and cured tobacco. Sweet, seamless and penetrating on the palate, offering intense dark berry, bitter cherry, mocha and spicecake flavors and a repeating vanilla note. Shows outstanding focus and appealing sweetness on the strikingly long, juicy finish, which features repeating spiciness and polished, slow-building tannins. The 2017 Micho is even more compelling than its 2016 counterpart. A blend of 52% Merlot and 48% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 20 months in 100% new French oak, it has a deep ruby-purple color and scents of warm chocolate, fresh violets, charcuterie, dried herbs and blackcurrant leaf with a core of marionberry, blackcurrant and blackberry pie plus notes of flowers, red fruit sparks and a minerally undercurrent. The medium to full-bodied palate unfurls to reveal layers of fresh, über spicy, mineral-laced fruits, with a firm but incredibly grainy frame and juicy freshness to oppose on the very long, layered finish. Wow!
The 2017 Micho Estate is close to an even split of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 20 months in new French oak. Rocking notes of black cherries, spring flowers, cedarwood, and violets all define this beauty, which is full-bodied and elegant, yet powerful at the same time. Drink this enticing red over the coming decade.
