The 2016 Micho is a blend of 54% Merlot and 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 20 months in 80% new French oak. Deep ruby-purple, the nose gives up scents of cast-iron pan, blackberry pie, blackcurrant liqueur, graphite, ash, cedar and wafts of blackcurrant bud, dried thyme, bitter chocolate and red cherry sparks. The palate is medium to full-bodied and wonderfully elegant and expressive, with luscious, chocolate-laced flavors and a firm but elegant frame, finishing very long and layered with fantastic freshness.

The 2016 Micho Estate is a blend of 54% Merlot and 46% Cabernet Sauvignon that’s all from this high elevation estate located off Adelaida Road. It offers tons of black cherries, chocolate, smoked earth, and spicy notes as well as a full-bodied, rounded, powerful style on the palate. It’s a Pomerol on steroids and will drink beautifully for 7-8 years, probably longer. From high up off Adelaida Road, the Daou brothers continue to make a massive lineup of stellar wines. The 2016s are incredibly strong across the board and make the most of this brilliant vintage. In 2017, they opted to wait until after the heatwaves and then do extensive sorting, and this paid off brilliantly and I suspect they’ve made the top Bordeaux blends in the vintage. As I’ve said in the past, these wine compete with the best of Napa Valley and are some of the leading Bordeaux blends from Paso Robles.
