The 2022 Syrah Mae Estate is an impressive follow-up to the stellar 2021 bottling, opening with an inky, captivating bouquet of cracked pepper, turned soil, iodine and violets. The palate is enveloping and umami-laden, bursting with contained density that admirably retains focus as it moves into a savory, meaty finish propelled by layers of opaque fruits and burly yet precise tannins. While I didn't find this to reach quite the highs of the superb 2021, it will be ready to check in on sooner and offers a compelling example of the nascent Syrah plantings at Mae Estate.

A barrel selection with a higher percentage of new wood than the Mae Estate bottling, the 2022 Chardonnay Mae Estate BR frames the potential of this recently established vineyard in technicolor. There is another level of richness, tension and complexity while retaining the wine's slender, focused core. The new wood here is remarkably integrated, framing the wine with a deft polish that propels the finish farther than the standard bottling but allows the chiseled, saline refreshment to shine through. A beautiful and exciting bottling that will be one to follow.

The 2022 Chardonnay Mae Estate Vineyard BR is a barrel selection of the best lots in the cellar. Bright and airy, with sizzling tension, the BR is a super-precise wine. Crushed rocks, mint, slate, white pepper and citrus peel are all finely sculpted in the glass. Deceptively understated, the 2022 is a dazzling wine that emphasizes vibrancy and pure saline cut.

The 2022 Syrah Mae Estate Vineyard is a wine of remarkable density and depth. Packed with power and gravitas, it charges across the palate with layers of menthol, marine notes and musky dark fruit that never let up. The 100% whole clusters are beautifully integrated, adding lift and polish. Intense yet refined, the 2022 soars through a minty, penetrating finish that lingers with absolute finesse.
