Deep ruby. Pungent dark berry, olive and violet scents are accompanied by suggestions of cracked pepper, smoky bacon and licorice. Picks up a minerally quality with air, which adds zesty cut to ripe cassis, cherry and fruitcake flavors. Shows the heft of the vintage but comes off surprisingly lively, delivering strong closing thrust, building tannins and a lingering menthol note.

The rock-solid 2015 Hermitage is 100% Syrah brought up in 40% new French oak. It offers terrific notes of blackberries, currants, crushed rocks and graphite. Rich, full-bodied, and tannic, yet with an expansive and layered texture, it needs short-term cellaring and will keep for two decades.
