Score 98/100 · Drink 2020-2030, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2020

Coming from a cooler, sandy terroir not far from James Berry Vineyard, the 2018 Adams Ranch Vineyard checks in as 65% Syrah, 30% Grenache, and 5% Roussanne. It shows a more gamey, Côte Rôtie-like style in its black raspberry and darker berry fruits as well as notes of spice, black olives, white pepper, and spring flowers. Shinning just as much for its elegance and finesse as its power and richness, it's medium to full-bodied and has polished tannins, flawless balance, and great finish. This singular beauty (it's seemingly part Côte Rôtie, part Burgundy, and part Paso Robles) will evolve gracefully for at least a decade. All three of these new releases from Ledge required lots of air to show at their best, so don't be afraid to throw these into a decanter if opening bottles any time soon.

Saturated violet. Highly perfumed red and dark berry, exotic spice, incense, potpourri and smoky bacon scents show superb clarity and mineral lift. Deeply concentrated black raspberry, cherry preserve and fruitcake flavors are complemented by a hint of candied violet that builds on the back half. Broad and gently chewy in texture, showing superb tension and finishing with powerful, floral- and mineral-dominated persistence and youthfully gripping tannins.
