Score 91/100 · Drink 2023-2029, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Sep 2023
The 2021 Syrah Hilltops is an attractive wine that also is a terrific example of the house style at Stolpman these days. There is plenty of Ballard Canyon darkness, but the wine is a bit lighter in body and structure than most years. I would prefer to drink this easygoing Syrah over the near and medium term.

Mostly destemmed (70%), the 2021 Syrah Hilltops spent 20 months in neutral French oak prior to bottling. It’s more closed and tight, but has pure red, blue, and black fruits, some peppery, floral nuances, medium to full body, plenty of tannins, and outstanding length. Give bottles 2-3 years and enjoy over the following decade or more.
