From vines of 50 years’ age on average in this south-facing vineyard. Harvest end October, fermentation in stainless steel (no malo) with maturation on the lees until bottling in August 2022. TA 5.7 g/l, RS 4.6 g/l, SO 2 total 86 g/l, SO 2 free 33 g/l. Bottle weight 440 g. So ripe and pungent and rewarding. Really lovely wine that I couldn’t spit out. Positively smouldering … (JR)

From another very warm vintage, the intensely yellow 2011 Riesling Zöbinger Ried Heiligenstein Alte Reben 1ÖTW opens with an intense bouquet of ripe fruits intertwined with a subtle yet deep mineral aroma and vegetal as well as herbal notes and an overall coolish Heiligenstein impression. Intense, ripe and round on the palate, this is a juicy and elegant Riesling with gripping phenols and a slightly bitter finish. The 2011 is somewhat louder than other vintages tasted for this report, yet somehow it still seems to wait for the kick-off. The finish is fresh and gives a rather rejuvenated feel. This is definitely a wine to have with food, for example fish with a richer cream sauce. "I am sure 2011 will last forever," said a convinced Willi Bründlmayer. Tasted in September 2019.

An intricate embroidery of peaches and clementines and stone smoke. Just the edge of caramelisation beginning to curl softly over a dusty, white currant and wild broom core. Complex, lingering and lithe. (TC)
