A spectacular wine that’s made in a modern, ripe style, the 2007 Château Paradis Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence Terre des Anges is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah, and 20% Grenache that’s aged for 12-months in half new and old wood, and half in concrete tank. It exhibits a dense purple color as well as gorgeous aromatics of smoky blackberry and cassis fruit, coffee, licorice, and some new wood. While there’s no denying the modern slant (and those that are really oak adverse should probably pass), this fleshes out with air, showing touches of wild herb and freshly snipped flowers, as well as striking minerality on both the nose and the palate. Medium to full bodied, with notable purity, a dense, focused texture, and solid structure, this is a backup the truck purchase that should drink well for a decade or longer!
