Vivid ruby-red. Assertive scents of ripe red berries, candied rose and baking spices; a smoky mineral element emerges with aeration. Silky, sweet and fleshy on the palate, offering vibrant black raspberry, cherry cola and floral pastille flavors complemented by a hint of star anise. In a juicy, graceful style, showing impressive clarity and smooth, rounded tannins on the long, floral-tinged finish.
The 2019 Pinot Noir Le Pré du Col Vineyard is exceptionally layered and elegant this vintage, with detailed raspberries and rose petal perfume and wafts of licorice peel and tangerine. The palate is grainy and bright, already boasting complex flavor layers with crunchy fruits and loads of spicy accents. It finishes with tremendous length.
Full bottle 1,450 g. Bergström's Ribbon Ridge AVA estate vineyard added to their portfolio comprises 16 acres of marine-sedimentary shallow, sandy soil owned by the Hill family and farmed by Bergström Wines in partnership since its inception. Planted in 2006 at 385–400 ft and always farmed non-certified biodynamic/regenerative-ecological methods. Transparent garnet. Light, jewelly nose – not that intense. Firm tannins dominate the palate rather than the fruit. This may develop into something special but it's not there yet. Pretty chewy finish and a bit of a hole on the mid palate. (JR)
