Score 88/100 · Drink 2006-2007, Robert Parker, Dec 2006

While the 2004 Roussanne James Berry Vineyard is very good, it is not as excellent as many Copain offerings. Revealing hints of marmalade and rose water, it is a medium-bodied, crisp, elegant white, but it lacks that extra dimension of flavor and intensity usually possessed by Guthrie’s wines. Drink it over the next year. (all barrel-fermented, 30% new) Bright yellow-green color. Aroma of ripe lemon and spices. Fresh and penetrating but youthfully tight, with enticing mineral and citrus flavors showing noteworthy energy from the limestone soil. Nicely tactile for a California white with only 13.5% alcohol. Finishes with a chalky suggestion of talc.
