The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Grassini Family Vineyard comes across as distinctly sweet and ripe, with plenty of voluptuousness in its dark red stone fruit, mocha and spice flavors. Drink this fleshy, forward Cabernet Sauvignon over the next handful of years. The 2012 spent 22 months in French oak, 75% new. This warm site and the high percentage of new barrels aren't complementary, rather the oak adds to a fruit profile that naturally tends towards the richer end of the spectrum.

Possessing more richness and depth than the Vogelzang Vineyard, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Grassini Vineyard has beautiful cassis and black raspberry fruit to go with lots of graphite and spice-box characteristics on the nose. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, supple, nicely concentrated and textured Cabernet that has beautiful balance and length. It should drink nicely on release and have a decade or more of longevity.
(75% new French oak): Deep ruby. Ripe cherry, pipe tobacco and candied rose on the nose, plus a sexy hint of vanilla. Intense dark berry and cherry compote flavors are complicated by a sweet mocha quality and a suggestion of succulent herbs. Shows good sweetness and flesh on the clinging finish, which is nicely framed by smooth tannins.
